About Me

Air Conditioning Options

As you probably know, the Australian summertime can be extremely hot. When I moved to Australia from England, I knew it would be warm, but I wasn't ready for the intense heat. I had bought a home on the outskirts of Sydney. It was a great place but unfortunately, it didn't have an HVAC system. I moved in during the winter time, so this wasn't a problem. However, when the weather began to warm up, the interior of my home became very uncomfortable. I called in an HVAC contractor who explained my options before installing a modern HVAC system which keeps my house nice and cool.

5 Advantages of Gas Heating Systems

by Herminia Lopez

If you have always used electric heating in the past, you might feel uncertain about switching to using gas. The fact is that gas heating has many advantages over electric heating. Here are five ways in which a gas heating system could benefit you and your family.

1. Gas Heating Is Affordable

Compared to electric heating, gas-powered heating usually has lower running costs. This affordability comes from the fact that gas heating is very efficient. The heat produced by burning gas is used directly to heat your home, resulting in very little energy wastage.

2. Gas-Powered Homes Are Cosy

Compared to electric heaters, gas furnaces are able to produce heat very quickly. Therefore, your home is likely to reach your preferred temperature much faster when you use gas heating compared to electric heating. That means no more shivering on cold mornings while you wait for your home to heat up.

3. Gas Furnaces Are Built to Last

Gas furnaces typically have long lifespans compared to electric heaters. You should expect your gas furnace to last for a decade or more. To ensure that your gas furnace reaches its full lifespan, you should schedule regular maintenance checks so that any problems can be quickly identified and addressed.

4. Gas Heating Increases Self-Sufficiency

When you use electricity to heat your home, your comfort is at the mercy of local power networks. A power outage can result in you shivering while you wait for the network to be restored. By contrast, gas heating systems do not rely on electrical systems.

Gas supplies very rarely experience disruption, but if something does cause gas to be no longer supplied to your home, it is still possible to supply your gas heating system using gas from a canister.

5. Gas Heating Isn't Necessarily a Poor Environmental Choice

Many people assume that electrical heating systems are cleaner and greener than gas systems. In fact, the truth of this assumption depends on how the electricity supplied to the home is generated. If your region depends on burning dirty fossil fuels, such as coal and gas, to produce electricity, then gas, which burns relatively cleanly, could be a more eco-friendly option.

To reduce the environmental impact of your gas heating system as much as possible, be sure to schedule regular maintenance checks. Gas heating is most efficient when the furnace is well-maintained and clean. You can also supplement your gas heating system with solar heating, as long as you have a suitable place to put the panels.
