About Me

Air Conditioning Options

As you probably know, the Australian summertime can be extremely hot. When I moved to Australia from England, I knew it would be warm, but I wasn't ready for the intense heat. I had bought a home on the outskirts of Sydney. It was a great place but unfortunately, it didn't have an HVAC system. I moved in during the winter time, so this wasn't a problem. However, when the weather began to warm up, the interior of my home became very uncomfortable. I called in an HVAC contractor who explained my options before installing a modern HVAC system which keeps my house nice and cool.

Gas Heating Services

by Herminia Lopez

Natural gas has become a preferable method of heating in homes today due to its reliability and efficiency. Gas heating is warmer than heating by electricity. Natural gas is supplied by forced air systems at 48–60° Celsius (120–140° Fahrenheit), in comparison to electricity, which supplies air at 29–35° Celsius (85-95° Fahrenheit). Gas heating warms up rooms faster and at a more cost-effective price.

If you need a gas heater, the first thing you should consider is how much space you are heating and how quickly the room can heat up. Room size and climate in your area will help you choose an appropriate gas heater.

The next consideration in choosing a gas heater is the size of heater you need. If you spend too much on an oversized gas heater, it will cost more to maintain the heater, and buying a cheaper gas heater may also mean you cannot warm up a room or house properly. There are other variables to consider when choosing the size of a gas heater, including:

  • The geographical area you live in
  • The height of your ceiling
  • Insulation present in your home
  • If the rooms you want to heat receive direct sunlight

Types of gas heaters

Flued heaters

These types of heaters are permanently fixed. If installed correctly, they emit appropriate heat and are safe. They are suitable for individuals with permanent homes rather than renters who need a temporary heating solution. Flued heaters allow for customized temperature controls and come with thermostats that allow you to set your desired temperature. Most flued heaters can be programmed to turn on and off, allowing for energy saving. Some models come equipped with child locks that are a safety feature for homeowners with children.

Non-flued heaters

This type of heater can be permanently installed, or it can be portable. These heaters require sufficient ventilation and proper cleaning and need to be turned off when you're sleeping for safety reasons. Portable heaters can be pointed in any direction. Portable heaters are energy efficient. Portable gas heaters sold in Australia should have an efficiency label. They are also cheaper to purchase than flued heaters.

With a natural gas heating system, you can control your indoor temperature as well as your energy bills. Winter in some parts of Australia can be unpredictable, and it is important that you have reliable gas heating services. Gas heating systems are durable for decades but require proper and regular maintenance.
