About Me

Air Conditioning Options

As you probably know, the Australian summertime can be extremely hot. When I moved to Australia from England, I knew it would be warm, but I wasn't ready for the intense heat. I had bought a home on the outskirts of Sydney. It was a great place but unfortunately, it didn't have an HVAC system. I moved in during the winter time, so this wasn't a problem. However, when the weather began to warm up, the interior of my home became very uncomfortable. I called in an HVAC contractor who explained my options before installing a modern HVAC system which keeps my house nice and cool.

Simple steps to follow in the maintenance of a ductless mini-split HVAC

by Herminia Lopez

Ductless HVAC system are all the range nowadays. They are popular with homeowners because one does not need to create as much infrastructure to install or replace them. When these systems are well-maintained, they can give you the ideal indoor conditions to live in. Knowing the basics of mini-split HVAC unit maintenance also helps you find out when the system has serious problems which may need the input of an expert.

Cutting off power supply

Before you start any maintenance procedure, you need to make sure that each indoor air handling unit is turned off. If there is a circuit switch for the outdoor unit, turn it off too. This simple step will help you avoid electric shock when cleaning or performing other maintenance related tasks. After you have turned off the system for cleaning, give it an hour to cool down to standing temperatures before attempting any cleaning.

Getting maximum airflow to the unit

You need to make sure that the immediate area surrounding a unit has ample room for unrestricted flow of air. Ideally, there should be at least four feet clearance around the unit, as this will give maximum room for air to flow around and in the unit. When choosing a system, ensure that it has superior quality components that will be adequately cleaned with a soft and dry cloth.

Cleaning the cooling coils

The cleaning coil is important to the entire system because it provides cooling and dehumidifies the room. When cleaning the coil, inspect it thoroughly for any signs of mold or mildew. It is common for the coil to have mold because it accumulates a lot of moisture from time to time. If you notice any mold, contact a HVAC expert for professional cleaning to completely eliminate the mold. Make sure that the mold is cleaned properly because those spores can be the source of serious health complications.

Split conditioner systems are very reliable, especially when they are properly maintained. If you are using your system for heating, keep checking it for snow accumulation and if any is detected, have it removed in time. This will protect the unit from breaking down before it has served its full potential. If the system is not working properly, and you do not understand how to fix the particular problem, it would be best to consult HVAC contractors and have them come to your home for an inspection. Inspections provide you with the right insights into the actual problem with your system, and workable solutions.
