About Me

Air Conditioning Options

As you probably know, the Australian summertime can be extremely hot. When I moved to Australia from England, I knew it would be warm, but I wasn't ready for the intense heat. I had bought a home on the outskirts of Sydney. It was a great place but unfortunately, it didn't have an HVAC system. I moved in during the winter time, so this wasn't a problem. However, when the weather began to warm up, the interior of my home became very uncomfortable. I called in an HVAC contractor who explained my options before installing a modern HVAC system which keeps my house nice and cool.

2 Common Misconceptions to Avoid When Installing Solar Panels

by Herminia Lopez

Traditionally, the electricity consumed by people and businesses across Australia and many other parts of the world has been generated from fossil fuels. But as planet Earth's fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas continue to get depleted at an alarming rate, it has become clear that there is an urgent need for individuals and businesses alike to find more sustainable ways of meeting their demand for electricity.

One intervention that is increasingly being considered and adopted is solar panel installation. The use of solar panels as a way of generating electricity is gaining popularity among Australian homeowners and businesses by the day because of the many essential benefits it has to offer. To start with, solar energy is renewable, meaning it is a sustainable source of energy. Secondly, no monthly electricity bills from local electricity suppliers are incurred, as solar panels provide electricity free of charge once the installation is complete. Thirdly, eligible homeowners and businesses may benefit from solar subsidies and rebates offered by certain state and territory governments. Fourth, building owners can increase the market value of their properties considerably by installing solar panels. These are just but a few of the many amazing benefits of solar panel installation.

If you are looking to install a solar panel system in your home so you can enjoy the above and more benefits, there are some common misconceptions to avoid so you can get the most out of your investment, including:

Misconception #1: Solar panels need to be exposed to the hottest sun of the day.

Many people don't seem to understand how solar panels really work. They think that the panels require maximum exposure to solar heat to ensure optimal generation of electricity. This couldn't be further from the truth. Solar panels work by converting the sun's light energy — not heat energy — into electricity, so you should focus on positioning your panels to a direction where they will get sufficiently sun-lit — not where they will be exposed to the hottest sun of the day.

Misconception #2: Solar panels must be installed on the rooftop.

Another common misconception to avoid is thinking that your solar panels must be installed on your rooftop. While the panels are typically installed on rooftops, this doesn't necessarily mean they can't be installed somewhere else. In fact, solar panels should only be installed on rooftops when the roof is structurally sound to allow for the addition by withstanding the weight of installers during the installation work, as well as carrying the weight of the panels over the long term. With solar panel stands, you can even install your panels on the ground, as long as the preferred location is safe and secure.

To ensure your solar panels work efficiently, make sure they are professionally installed. Contact a professional solar panel installation expert in this regard.
